A SOLDIER, A GOD, A WAR
(Available IN PRINT HERE)
God was with me when I went to war
I said "Thank you God for keeping it on a foreign shore"
God was beside me in every firefight
Helping me get through 'till dawns early light
God was with me in the rain
Helping me through the suffering and pain
God was with John when he lost his arm
Bringing him comfort in his time of harm
God was with Jim when he lost his leg
I shall teach you to walk with a wooden peg
God was with Scott when he lost his sight
I'll help you remember the day from the night
God was with Harry when he lost his hearing
I'll stay beside you to help keep your bearing
God was beside me when Joe drowned in the river
Forever and always it will make me quiver
God was with me the day Jerry died
He's on his way to Heaven, He would not lie
God has been with me through years of mental distress
He told me not to worry for in the end Heaven will bless
God was with me when I came home
And he helped me through all of the storms
God was there in the good times and bad
No better a friend one could ever have had
"God," I asked, "Why so many wars?"
And we prayed there should be no more
